Directions to HANDS and "The Valley"

DIRECTIONS BY TRAIN

FROM MANHATTAN/NEWARK:

From New York Penn Station— Take the NJ Transit MidTown Direct train (either “Dover” or “Gladstone” trains).

To the HANDS Office:

Make sure the train stops at the Orange Train Station (for rush hour trains that skip this stop, switch at Newark Broad Street Station or Brick Church Station for a local train). Get off the train at Orange and walk back to the first intersection (Essex Avenue). Make a left turn and walk to 15 South Essex. HANDS entrance is through the side gate.

To the Valley/Brass Company:

Make sure the train stops at Highland Avenue Station (MidTown Direct trains skip this stop; switch at Newark Broad Street Station or Brick Church Station). Exit the train and walk forward to Freeman Street. Make a right turn and walk to 540-544 Freeman Street.

DIRECTIONS BY CAR

To the HANDS Office:

REGIONAL TRAVEL:
Take Interstate 280: From 280 East– take Exit 11 Center Street. Turn left at 1st corner, Essex Avenue. From 280 West - exit 11B for Essex Avenue/Day Street, Orange. Proceed one block beyond the ramp to Essex Avenue and turn right. From both directions: Proceed under the train viaduct. HANDS is on the block north of the viaduct in the “Chronicle Building”, a reddish-brown brick, columned building with a restaurant in the front. HANDS’ entrance is through the side gate.

LOCAL TRAVEL:
From the south: Take Scotland Road to the corner of Main Street (changes name to High Street at this intersection) in Orange. Turn right and proceed for 3 blocks to Essex Avenue. Turn right. HANDS is in the “Chronicle Building” on the right side.
From the east: Take Main Street west to downtown Orange. Turn left at the corner of Essex Avenue. HANDS is on this block on the right side.

PARKING: HANDS’ parking lot is on Railroad Avenue. On the 1st corner south of our building (adjacent to railroad viaduct), turn left (east). Our lot is on the left with a green chain link fence.

To the Valley:

REGIONAL TRAVEL:
Take Interstate 280 to the exit as described in the directions to the HANDS office. From 280 East, turn right onto Essex Avenue. From 280 West, turn left onto Essex Avenue. Proceed to the corner of Central Avenue and follow curve around the park and turn right. At the corner of Scotland Road (White Castle on corner), make a left.

To the Brass Company: Proceed to the corner of Freeman Street, make a right turn and go under the train viaduct. The Brass Company is on the left at 540-544 Freeman Street.

To the F. Berg Hat Factory: Proceed to the corner of Nassau Street, make a turn right and go under the train viaduct. The building is one block ahead on the right side.

LOCAL TRAVEL:
Take Scotland Road (changes name from High Street at the corner of Main Street).

To the Brass Company: Proceed to the corner of Freeman Street (one block south of the Highland Avenue NJ Transit Train Station). Turn west (under the viaduct) and proceed one block to the Brass Company at 540-544 Freeman Street.

To the F. Berg Hat Factory: Proceed to the corner of Nassau Street, turn west (under the viaduct) and proceed one block ahead.
