The HANDS HomeBuyers Club assists first-time homebuyers through the homebuying process providing them with educational seminars, mutual peer and group support, clear and consistent information, and high quality guidance in buying a home.  The club is a group of people helping and supporting each other as they travel the road to homeownership.  

The HomeBuyers Club vision is to assist first-time homebuyers in every way possible to become successful homeowners and to engage them in the improvement of the community of Orange and East Orange .  The HomeBuyers Club connects with potential homebuyers very early in the homebuying process, connecting them with all of the available services and assistance, and keeping them involved in their neighborhood after they have purchased a home.  

The HomeBuyers Club:  

bulletProvides an in-depth course in homebuyer preparation.
bulletCreates a mutual support network for first-time buyers.
bulletProvides high quality credit counseling, and loan counseling services.
bulletRefers buyers to high quality insurance, legal and home inspection services.
bulletAssists buyers to access the best mortgages and down-payment assistance available.
bulletPromotes what is good about the community of Orange and East Orange and creates a positive momentum for community improvement.
bulletSeeks to raise the homeownership rates in Orange and East Orange .
bulletRemains involved with homebuyers after they purchase and involves them in neighborhood improvement efforts.
bulletSells HANDS homes to first-time buyers.  

Aspiring homebuyers apply to join a chapter with 20 other buyers who meet twice monthly for six months. The semi-monthly meetings are two hours long with child-care and dinner provided.  

The HomeBuyers Club is run by Dorothy White, Homebuyer Coordinator/Counselor, who facilitates chapter meetings with Elizabeth Jackson. They are both certified in Homebuyer Training and Counseling by the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation.
