Celebrating Richard Martha

Transforming Community Through Art and Vision

Richard Martha, founder of Rich Imaging Studio, has spent more than 25 years shaping culture through art, design, and storytelling. An internationally recognized post-production artist and creative visionary, Richard’s work has appeared in major advertising campaigns, fashion editorials, album covers, and publications around the world. Yet despite his global reach, his passion for community and public art remains deeply rooted in Orange.

Born in the Netherlands, Richard discovered his creative voice as a teenager through graffiti. Alongside friends, he used spray paint to transform storefront gates, walls, and neighborhood spaces into vibrant works of art. At the same time, he pursued another passion—basketball—which eventually brought him to the United States, where he attended SUNY Buffalo and studied advertising design.

Richard’s journey would take him from upstate New York to Toronto’s fashion world and eventually to Paris, where he created fashion illustrations for publications including French Vogue, Jeune & Jolie, and Max France. At a time when technology was redefining creative work, Richard was ahead of the curve, building a groundbreaking career in digital retouching and visual production. By 2002, he had relocated to New York City, where his talent and eye for detail helped launch an award-winning career.

Today, Richard is a six-time nominee for the Photoshop Guru Award and a three-time recipient, with a client list that includes globally recognized brands such as Adidas, Rolex, Vogue Italy, Microsoft, Grey Goose, and The Wall Street Journal. Through Rich Imaging Studio, he continues to blend technical expertise with artistic imagination—creating murals, concept art, customized visuals, and large-scale public works that inspire connection and creativity.

But for Richard, art has never been only about aesthetics. Since moving his family to Orange in 2005, he has envisioned using public art to celebrate and revitalize the city he calls home, sharing, “I’ve always looked at the walls of Orange as opportunities, places where color, creativity, and storytelling can bring energy back into a community.”

Since 2017, Richard has returned to his graffiti roots, creating murals and public art inspired by urban creative scenes from Miami’s Wynwood district to the streets of Paris and Amsterdam. His fascination with street art reflects a belief that creativity should be accessible, visible, and woven into everyday life.

Selected by the mayor to help lead a mural project for the Valley’s PSE&G substation, Richard advocated for Orange youth from the start—successfully helping establish a bi-annual scholarship for Orange High School students that became the largest scholarship awarded at the city’s 2024 awards ceremony.

At the heart of Richard’s work is the idea that artists should embrace innovation while remaining grounded in human connection. “Artists of their time should use the tools of their time,” he believes—a philosophy reflected in both his mastery of digital technology and his continued commitment to hands-on artistic expression.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Richard is also known as a devoted father, music enthusiast, and passionate advocate for creativity in community spaces. Through Rich Imaging Studio and his public art practice, he continues to push boundaries while helping reimagine what neighborhoods can feel like when art is allowed to flourish. Richard’s work is a powerful reminder that artists are essential to the future we all deserve—bringing imagination, culture, and connection into the everyday life of a community.
